Schubertiade Chicago

A marathon festival of Franz Schubert’s music on January 28th, 2012

Thank you to all who attended our 8th annual Schubertiade! Hundreds of people joined us last Saturday for six straight hours to celebrate Schubert’s birthday and share in the joy of music.

We would like to especially thank each and every one of the 70+ performers who shared their prodigious talents, as well as the army of volunteers who made sure the day ran smoothly. It is delightful to see Chicago’s musicians and music lovers come together in this way.

This year’s program included some novel and very exciting performances, including many things we had not heard in previous years. We heard arrangements for horn quartet;Standchen D.920 for contralto and male chorus; jazz improvisations on Schubert themes; a series of vocal quartets; and little-known opera arias and a full symphony, played outstandingly by the Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra!

We concluded our celebration with a stirring final tribute, the An die Musik sing-a-long. Who knew we had so many great singers in the audience?!

Also of note, we received more donations than ever from our kind and generous patrons. We’re incredibly grateful for that support and look forward to bringing you another spectacular event next year! To music!
